Tatung University Summer Abroad Program
Passed by the administration on March 27, 2001and approved by President Lin on April 10, 2001
I. The purpose of the Tatung University Summer Abroad program is to enhance the student and faculty's level of academic excellence through further studies and to strengthen international cultural and academic contacts.
II. Summer Abroad opportunities for faculty members and students are limited to the list of universities and research institutions approved by the university. In special circumstances, such as government-sponsored programs, faculty members may enroll in other institutions. This clause does not pertain to faculty members pursuing for higher degrees in the summer.
III. Faculty members who wish to study abroad in the summer must be recommended by their respective departments. The Study Abroad Committee will then evaluate the candidate and recommend him/her to the President. Once the President approves the nomination, the university will notify the institution abroad.
IV. Since faculty members who pursue further studies are employed by the university and receive full pay while abroad, they are required to apply for sabbatical leave. In addition, faculty members must submit an application for financial assistance which covers travel expenses and other fees.
V. Upon completion of the summer abroad program, faculty members are bound to serve Tatung University for two times their time abroad. Faculty members who receive financial assistance are required to return to Tatung for an additional one times the time abroad.
VI. Summer abroad programs for students are self-paid. Participants are selected through a three-step process that includes a written test and an interview. The selection process varies yearly and is contingent upon the number of openings and the interests of the individual schools or departments. The schools and departments submit a list of qualified students to the Dean's Office, which screens the students. Once the final list is confirmed by the President, the schools abroad are notified of the decisions.
VII. All study abroad procedures must abide in the policies set forth by the school and the Ministry of Education.
VIII. Credit transfers for all study abroad students must be approved by their respective departments and by the Registrar's Office.
IX. Once students have obtained their study abroad transcripts, they must submit an official transcript to the Registrar's Office.
X. The above regulations will be in effect once they are approved by the administration.
The same for revisions.
