1. The education-industry cooperation between Tatung Institute of Technology and Tatung Company gives every student to integrate classroom theories with practical work experience. The Company also provides students with the internship program during the summer and job opportunities after graduation.

2. The faculty-student ratio is as high as 1 to 12.5. The faculty members stay in school 8 hours a day, which enables frequent personal contacts between the faculty and students.

3. Each student has two faculty members to assist his/her learning and everyday life
on campus. A tutor is assigned from the freshman year to give each student
needed advice and guidance. And each student must choose a professor
in his/her junior year as learning and research advisor.

4. The curricular emphasizes not only on the new theory and
technology but also on the hands-on practice and experience.
The Institute stresses equally the importance of both professional and
general education.

5. Besides devoting themselves to teaching, the faculty members actively
do fundamental and applied research, publish papers and attend
international conferences with enthusiasm. Under several research-improvement
programs, a significant amount of journal papers, domestic and foreign patents
are published each year.

6. Activities such as school anniversary are planned and organized by students themselves to cultivate their leadership, teamwork and responsibility.

The Housing

The Teh-Hui Dormitory, which cost three hundred million NT dollars to build, ahs 10 floors above the ground and 3 floors under the ground. Standing only 50 meters from the school, it provides safe and comfortable accommodation for more than 1000 individuals. All the freshmen that come from other places than Taipei can be housed in the dormitory upon application.

The Computer Center

The center is currently equipped with Sun SPARC Server 1000, Enterprise E450, Alpha Server 1000A, and other Sun SPARC and Intel-based servers. There are three Intel-based PC classrooms to provide campus wide computer education. The campus network is connected to the TANet via two T1 channels. Cisco 3200, 4500, 5505 and 7206 switches and routers power the network backbone. Dormitory computer network and campus distributed processing environment is established. ¡@

The Library

At present there are more than 160,000 books and about 650 periodicals in the library available to all levels of readers. A set of CD-ROMs, including BIOLOGICAL ABSTRACTS, SCI, MATHSCI, DISSERTATION ABSTRACT, SSCI and EI COMPENDEX PLUS, is available in the library. The readers can also access to the online databases and electrical journal through the campus network. The library has subscribed 7 online database and electrical journals, including Ei Village, SDOS, IDEAL, STICNET, BPO, EBSCO Host and SwetsNet. By linking with other academic sources through the Internet, library can now serve its readers with more function and more possibility.

The Scholarships

More than 100 scholarships are awarded each year including those
donated by Tatung alumni, Tatung Company and its subsidiaries
as well as other companies and institutions. About one third of the
students get scholarship awards of various kinds each year, a rate
higher than that of any other school in this country.

The Students' Associations

This University claims a total of 44 students' associations, which are either
academic in nature or established to render service, provide entertainment,
promote common interests or serve other purposes, Incorporated into
The Students' Activity Center, all these associations are managed entirely by the
students themselves. The Ministry of Education has rated many of them, such as The Tatung Chorus, The Rovers and The Folklore Association, as outstanding university students' associations. The newly established Ecosystem Protection Association and Tatung Brass Band Association have attracted special attention.
